Legal Committee for Review of Post-2007 Legislation Holds a Consultative Meeting
Thursday, 18 December 2014 The Legal Committee for Review of Post-2007 Legislation held a consultative meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In addition to Advisor Fawwaz Abu Zir, Committee Chairman and Assistant to Secretary General of the Council of Ministers for Legal Affairs, the meeting brought together Committee members Khuloud Abdul Khaleq, representative of the Ministry of Social Affairs,
and Mahmoud Alawneh, representative of the Institute of Law at Birzeit University. The consultation event was also attended by international expert Maya Swart and UNDP representatives Carolyn Graydon, Ma’moun Attili, and Ahmed ash Shurafa. The meeting addressed the Legal Committee’s approach over the upcoming stage, as well as working mechanism, perception, and potential scenarios for review of post-2007 regulations in light of the Palestinian legal framework. Discussants reviewed key challenges and difficulties the Committee might face. An agreement was made to implement next actionable steps. The UNDP expressed full support for any processes that consolidate and harmonise the legislative framework in Palestine.
As a specialised subcommittee, the Legal Committee for Review of Post-2007 Legislation was formed by the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. (01/18/17/CoM/RH) on the Establishment of the Ministerial Committee for Review of Post-2007 Legal and Administrative Processes.
