Judgements

In 2001 the IoL launched a preliminary project for the initiation of a judicial database. In an early estimation it seemed necessary not to start with a massive compilation of judgments but rather with some selected samples in a trial database to serve as prototype for the foreseen expansion of the Databank. After the success of the prototype the IoL proceeded, in 2005, with a more comprehensive step towards a massive compilation of all judgments issued by the judiciary during the PNA era since 1994 up to date.

The aim of the project is it to compile a comprehensive database of Palestinian Court Judgments since 1994, as an integral part of the Legal and Judicial Databank AL-Muqtafi , developed by the IoL.

The judgment database will contain the referential information on all Judgments taken by the Palestinian high court since 1994, accompanied by full text judgment and scanned images, with advanced indexes and search techniques. In addition, a collection of selected Judgments will be commented upon by legal experts. Meanwhile, the project tends to enrich the compiled judgments with added value information necessary for the comprehension of justice rendered by the Palestinian judiciary, such as legal principles and commentaries
The project strives to:
  1. Preserve the Palestinian judicial heritage by compiling all rendered judgments by the Palestinian high –courts.
  2. Facilitate a systematic publication of judgments in an electronic form.
  3. Encourage the dissemination of judgments through modern information technology.
  4. Provide an electronic link between the legislative and the judgments databases where a judgment text is hyperlinked with the relevant Legislation it designates or point to.
