Training Programme for Women Police

On 4 April 2009, a training programme for Women Police was launched at the premises of the Institute of Law at Birzeit University.  The Training Programme is being implemented with the support of the Foundation for the Future as part of a project on Security Sector Reform in the Palestinian Territories.  The Programme aims to foster the culture of rule of law among members of Palestinian Police forces.  Thereby, citizens will ultimately access their rights through the executive in an efficient manner.

The training themes have been developed with respective stakeholders and include among others the following topics: Legal Definition of Women’s Rights under Palestinian Legislation and Relevant International Conventions, Protection and Security, Gender Awareness, Violence against Women in the Palestinian Society, Protection of Women against Violence, Investigation Procedures.  The training entails a practical component to ensure developing participants skills, including writing and drafting security reports, case studies, criminal investigations and mock trials.

In addition to experts from Birzeit University, experts from different Palestinian institutions will deliver training in the programme.  The training will be carried out over 10 days.  Totalling 60 hours, 15 participants will attend 2 training sessions everyday.
