Targeting Judges, the Institute of Law Organises a Workshop on Types of Corruption

 Jericho: On Thursday, 12 September 2013, the Institute of Law (IoL) at Birzeit University organised a training workshop on The Types of Corruption. Targeting judges,

the training is a component of the Anti-Corruption Capacity Building Assistance in Palestine Project, implemented in partnership and cooperation between the IoL and Palestinian Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), High Judicial Council (HJC) and Public Prosecution. The project is designed to support Palestinian anti-corruption actors and provide capacity building to relevant staff.

A total of 15 judges at the Corruption Crimes Court and other courts took part in the training event. Representing the IoL, Advocate Mu’een al Barghouthi explained that this was the second session of a training programme, targeting judges of other courts. The training event would address practical applications of corruption types and manifestations. These are associated with the current conditions and environment of each society. The workshop would focus on major types of corruption, including the concept, drivers and major indicators of political corruption. In addition to key forms of judicial corruption, training would address the relationship between judicial independence and accountability of judges. Relevant legal frameworks and major indicators of corruption in the health, real estate and construction sectors would also be highlighted in the training session.

The Anti-Corruption Capacity Building Assistance in Palestine Project is implemented over the period from April through late December 2013. Tailored to promote accountability and combat corruption in Palestine, the project is part of a joint programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and EUPOL COPPS.
